Walking the Beat Hollywood

Walking the Beat Hollywood brings students and the police officers that patrol their neighborhoods together to create a piece of theatre, encouraging discussion and empathy while breaking down barriers and biases.

Walking the Beat was founded in Elizabeth New Jersey by Theo Perkins and Angela Kariotis in partnership with Elizabeth Youth Theatre Ensemble. Walking the Beat came to Los Angeles and to the Fountain as WALKING THE BEAT HOLLYWOOD in the summer of 2019 with great success, culminating in a performance titled A Wall Is Just Another Door.

About

Students and officers participate in a 10 week workshop  and rehearsal process before mounting a production based on their personal experiences. The program works in two phases:

Phase 1. Trust & Devising—a five week workshop in which students and officers participate in various applied and devised theatre exercises.

Phase 2. The Rehearsal Process—five weeks on the campus of Los Angeles City College in which students rehearse for their final performance.

Student participants receive an educational stipend for each week of participation.

Stay tuned for WTBH Summer 2020!
