LIST OF PAST PLAYS
THE CHOSEN by Chaim Potok, adapted for the stage by Aaron Posner. LA Premiere. Directed by Simon Levy. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the most beloved novel about the American Jewish experience of the 20th Century, this acclaimed stage adaptation of The Chosen is more timely than ever. Set in Brooklyn, 1944, it is a coming-of-age story of two observant Jewish boys who come from very different homes. When Reuven is injured by Danny during a heated baseball game, a unique friendship is born. As the boys grow to manhood, they are forced to learn important lessons about each other, their fathers and themselves.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE by Stephen Sachs. World premiere. From the team that created the smash hit Cyrano, Arrival and Departure is a modern-day re-imagined deaf/hearing stage adaptation of the classic 1945 British film, Brief Encounter. Starring Troy Kotsur and his real-life wife actress Deanne Bray, a man and woman — both deaf and married to different people — meet accidentally in a train station. A friendship develops over time, escalating into a passionate love affair neither permit themselves to consummate. Not only an unforgettable love story, the re-imagined new play will dramatize the challenges of communication, social isolation, diversity and self-empowerment. And the necessity of human connection.
Achingly human and surprisingly funny, Cost of Living is about the forces that bring people together and the realities of facing the world with physical disabilities. It challenges us to re-think the true meaning of abled and disabled, whole and damaged. By shattering stereotypes, it reveals how deeply we all need each other.
Witnessing the ever present danger to our free press from the Trump Administration, Stephen Sachs, Co-Artistic Director of The Fountain Theatre, felt it was important to make some noise. Passionate about producing theatre that has the potential to create social justice, The Fountain Theatre decided to produce a one-night, celebrity reading of the screenplay of “All The President’s Men”.
